A Tree of Many Branches
By: Knot Madeup
Long, long ago in a country far far away lived a Man. Not a ordinary man but a man thats ancestry would travel the globe over and come to reside in the new country that we now know as the United States of America. That country was England specifically Devonshire England. And the Man Was Edward Toney born there 10 Dec. 1607.
Later a son William Toney born June 1634 in Bristol Somerset England was believed to be the journeyman that crossed the big pond and came to America.
Skipping a generation on 28 June 1737, Another William Toney was born to a Mary Toney. This child grew to wed one Margeret Sutherland. And on 30 Dec. 1804 was laid to rest in the Toney Cemetery in Dillons Mills, Va.
From William and Mary Toney was born William Jr. 1761 and on 22 Aug. 1782 he wed Leah Gatliff and they gave birth to a son Squire in 1783. William lived til 1811.
Squire Born in Bedford, Va., Married Nancy Brown on 25 Nov. 1813 she, was born in 1788. Among a daughter named Sarah they had a son named Burbus C. Toney he was born in 1819.
Born in Cabell Co. Va. Burbus in 1837 Married Kesiah (Sarah) Lucas Daughter of John Lucas and Mary Polly Fry. Mary Polly Fry can also be traced back to England from one John Peter Fry Born 1682.
Burbus and Kesiah also had a daughter named Sarah and a son name Patterson. Patterson born in the year 1858 was born in Logan, WV..
On 19 Dec. 1879 Patterson Married Sarah A. Barker (1856-1920) in Logan WV. They had many children such as Nancy, Owen, Fulton, Ervin, Hugh, Preston, Bud, and liddy.
Fulton was born in 1890 and within the next couple decades and a few trips back and forth to Harts Creek, WV. Where he met and Married Minnie W. Brumfield there and had many children like, Raven, Clell, Arthur, Sadie, Laney, Glennie, Nannie, Allie, Meadie, and Franklin. (forgive me if any of that is incorrect.)
Of those, Clell, born 3 Jan 1913 also had many children. First Wed to Judy (forgive me I should but don’t remember the last name) they had Paul, James, Velva, Elva, and Gene. Clell then remarried to Ellen Jean Billups daughter of Odfer and Stella Billups. They were blessed with many also like Jack, Belva, Maxine, and Clell Jr. and in July of 1971 Clell senior passed on and lays to rest in Spurlockville, Wv.
Finally, I stop there because it becomes apparent that as we move from our roots to the trunk out through these branches and past the newly emerging buds of the next generation, its easy to see our part of the wonderful canopy of this tall, weather tolerant, rejuvenating, family tree.
Thank you for reading.
